If anyone knew how to handle Jackson, it was my grandmother.

“Nanny, it's me. You home?” I asked.

“Where else would I be when my favorite is in pain?” She asked.

“And how would you know that?” I asked.

“Because my second favorite left not 20 minutes ago,” she said.

“Jackson was here?” I asked.

“Of course he was. Some people visit their loved ones. One day, I'm not going to be here and you are going to be so sad that we missed out on these times. I'm not saying that you don't love me--”

“Nanny! It has been 1 minute and you are already making me feel worse,” I said.

“I'm sorry baby. I just miss you, you know that,” she said.

“I know. Now come hug me to make me feel better,” she said.

She hugged me and of course asked if I was hungry. She just so happened to have all of my favorite foods in the fridge. Lucky me. Clearly, she had already shared some with Jackson, but I wasn't about to complain. I wish my ability worked that way. I would always have a man if I knew exactly what he wanted to eat before he arrived. She let me eat in peace before she started the lecture.

“Jackson told me that you tried to tell him about the Half Sight,” she said.

“Yes well, he didn't believe me. So much for that,” I replied.

“I told you to tell him a long time ago. When he was young and impressionable. But no one ever listens to old ladies like me,” she said.

“Nanny-”

“I know. I know. I just wanted to rub it in a little,” she said.

“Sorry, it's a habit. I have to take my fun where I can get it. I did tell him not to dismiss your story so quickly. Apparently, he thinks you were telling him that just to excuse having male company. Now why would he think that you had male company?” she asked.

“I didn't have any male company. Well not exactly. I was lonely and had a drink or two so---”

“So you decided to use the Half Sight instead of making friends. Or, reaching out to the ones that you have. I told you about doing this for amusement honey. Some of these spirits you bring over might not be as stable as you think they are. Musicians are known to be...passionate,” she said.

“Thank you for saying passionate, Nanny. But, I'm fine. I don't see how it is any of his business if I was to entertain a man anyway,” I said.

“You know good and well why. The same reason that I have been telling you since you were young,” she said.

“And let's not get into that,” I said.

“As I was saying, I have the Half Sight, too. But, I choose to use it outside of my personal amusement. I just wish you would too,” she said.

“Please don't give me the superhero speech. I love you, but helping others has never gotten you anywhere. What do you have to show for it? I know the neighborhood folks like you, but you never got out of this neighborhood,” I said.
